Overview

A flexible, modular identity system for the Museum of Design Atlanta’s summer program. This speculative rebrand replaced static assets with a dynamic "voxel" system designed to energize a K-12 audience.

The Challenge

The original branding felt disconnected: too childish for teens, yet too generic for kids. MODA needed a visual language that could:

  • Span a wide age range (6-18) without feeling patronizing.
  • Reflect the camp's focus on "building" and "technology."
  • Work across digital (web, social) and physical (t-shirts, signage) mediums.

The Solution: A Voxel-Based System

I moved away from standard flat graphics and developed a 3D Voxel System inspired by Minecraft and retro gaming. This wasn't just an aesthetic choice. It was a functional one:

1. Modular Typography

I designed a custom alphabet where every letter is built from the same grid of blocks. This ensures that any new headline feels instantly "on brand" while remaining legible.

2. "MODA Monsters" & 3D Identity

To add personality, I used the same voxel grid to generate a family of mascots. These "MODA Monsters" act as brand ambassadors. They add energy to social posts or guide kids through wayfinding signage.

I paired the blocky structure with a neon-adjacent color palette. The contrast between the rigid grid and the electric colors creates a sense of "organized chaos" that mirrors the creative energy of a design camp.

3. Motion System

Static pixels are boring. The voxel system was designed to move. It pulses, spins, and assembles to capture the kinetic energy of a kids' camp.

4. Application & Merch

The grid system makes layout effortless across any medium, from vertical digital signage to apparel.

Outcome

This project demonstrates how systems thinking applies to brand identity. By defining the rules (the grid, the voxel), I created a system where unlimited assets can be generated. This ranges from t-shirts to Instagram stories, all while maintaining 100% visual consistency.
